Marthas Vineyard Family Campground is
located just one and a half miles from the Vineyard Haven ferry terminal.
Ferry Transportation to and from the
Island: An exciting bonus to your Island camping vacation is the delightful 45
minute ferry trip across Vineyard Sound from Woods Hole to the Vineyard. The Marthas
Vineyard Steamship Authority is the only ferry that carries motor vehicles and trailers of
all sizes. Ferry reservations are needed for vehicles only. We recommend that you
travel on weekdays whenever possible, and we remind you that reserving early will make
travel much easier. It is advisable that you call the ferry for availability prior to
reserving a campsite with us. However, if you plan to rent one of our cabins OR trailer
sites, please contact us first to confirm availability prior to making your ferry
reservations.
When making advance reservations for vehicles on the ferry,
book to Vineyard Haven, if possible. (Its closer than Oak Bluffs.) Auto
rates apply to standard passenger vehicles, vans, and pickups only. Charges may vary by
length, height of vehicle, and if there are exterior loads. The Steamship Authority will
need to know the exact height and length (of all vehicles when connected), including
exterior loads such as bicycles and roof racks. (Measurements and license plate
numbers are required for price quotes, so be prepared when making your reservations.)
Weekends and holidays book early in the season, and we suggest you plan accordingly.
Reservations begin on February 1st. Bicycles and passengers are welcome anytime, with no
reservations necessary. Parking is available, with shuttle service to the ferry from the
parking facilities.
Coming to the
Campground from the Steamship Authority in Vineyard Haven: At the first
intersection (just past the Stop & Shop), take a right and go uphill (away from the
Ocean) for 1/4 mile. Take your first major road (Edgartown Road) on the left. This is also
uphill, and the street sign reads To Edgartown. We are 1.2 miles up this road
on the right, with a large blue sign.
Coming to the Campground from Oak
Bluffs and all other ferries: Go to Vineyard Haven via Beach Road. Continue
1/4 mile past the Cumberland Farms convenience store, and take a left onto Edgartown Road.
